Santiam Canyon Oregon
The Santiam Canyon in Oregon holds a few small milling towns that offer a peaceful, mostly wooded area to call home.
Mill City is the first town you will come to when headed East from Stayton on Highway 22. Mill City Oregon was originally founded in 1886 but not incorporated until 1947. The current population is just over 1550. Most people retire here or commute to Stayton for more employment options. The town has a lot to offer for it's size. You will find a grocery sotre, a bait/sports equipment shop, coffee house, fire station, a high school, a museum that isopen in the summer and Giovanni's-a great place to stop for pizza!
The town is divided by the North Santiam River. Marion County is on the North side of the river and the
homes on the South side of the river call Linn County home.
The terrain is mostly sloped, with lots of timber, however you can find level, cleared land from time to time.
In addition to Salmon and Steelhead fishing, the North Santiam River offers a variety of recreational activity. You can also take a picnic lunch to enjoy one of the well maintained city parks.
